happy birthday Sr. Ilustrado

Dearest Chuck,

Happy happy birthday and many many more milestones to celebrate.

Fortunately or unfortunately, i don't really know, i am undertaking activities which are overloading my time and drawing me away from communicating as often as i used to. One of the labours of love i have unforgivably delayed is sharing with the family the photos of your visit to Barcelona.

Short and swift but tenderly intense, we all enjoyed every minute of your stay as you must have noticed. I can't allow your birthday to pass without sending to you and to all the evidence of it. The photos speak for themselves. None of us were willing to miss out on any part of your 48 hours here.

JMC joins me in wishing you the best of the best, today and always. Lots of love to you and Edith.

From Xavi's "Alphabiography"

Hi Everyone.

We've been struggling during this latest trip of Marco. I miss him. The kids miss him. This one has been harder than all other trips - by far.

But, as always, life has its way of working things out and God sends you a reminder of just how fortunate you are.

I don't usually read all of Xavi's work as Language Arts is his strongest subject and he never needs my help (in fact, it is usually me asking him how to spell things). But today, I was working in my office when something popped out of my printer. I was so touched, I asked him to email it to me so I could send it to you.

Sharing with you a piece that Xavi wrote for his "Alphabiography"......

L Is For Luck

Gifts. We all love receiving them. Normally people think of gifts as things like an Xbox or a Nerf Gun or maybe that robot that does your homework for you. But it can also be things like good health, or your family, and maybe your superhuman abilities at art or sports. So we all have our favorite gifts. Whether it’s a talent or the gift that you wanted so badly that you got on one knee begged for it, there will always be one that we treasure forever. Many people asked me, “hey Xavi, what’s the greatest gift you ever received?” or “Xavi, if you had to tell me your favorite gift, what would it be?” Well, for the past 5 years, I’ve answered with one amazing word… Luck.
I’m going to admit, this wouldn’t be my choice of a chapter if Ms. Roberts didn’t make me write on the “Greatest Gift I Ever Received”, but now that I think about it, I have amazing luck. I have good health, a good family, and a good education. In fact, most of us have good luck everyday. Like maybe that time you thought you lost your treasured pen but found it in your blazer, or the time you decided to see if your i phone was “fall proof” and threw it out of a 3 story window (which fortunately only sustained 1 month of memory loss).

Life lesson: Luck is the greatest gift ever.

Thank you Lucia!

We are now working with Nuria Costa of Working at Weekend (see info below).

Nuria gave us a good price and Michael and I needed the help because we are foreigners in Spain and since Paco's parents are coming all the way from the Philippines we want to maximize our opportunities at Seminci.

Sharing with you the press release she has finalized.  Bueno now I can sleep better :)

Hope you're having a good birthday week!

Un abrazo fuerte,
Marty

Vietnamese food....in Saigon! The reaaal stuff!

Geneva!

Hi Everyone, Michael and I are en route to Geneva where we will screen GUT to an audience of 450 composed of former heads of states, dignitaries and human rights activists.  This event is part of the World Day Against the Death Penalty which is celebrated on Oct 10.  It's our biggest stage yet, and a social justice filmmaker's dream come true!

Today we give thanks that we have Paco in our lives.
He inspires us to appreciate all that we have, be all that we can be and love all those around us.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Happy Birthday, Andy!!!

Dearest Andy,
It's that time of the year again where all your titos and titas are scratching their heads asking themselves: "How is it possible that Andy is catching up to me?"
Because...just so know.... we all feel 24 (  well, except for Tito jaime).
We hope you have a lovely day with your bros and your mom.
We wish all the very best for you this year.
May you always be happy and strong and kind.
Happy, Happy Birthday !
Love,
your tit's, 'tos and coz's

a beautiful birthday

Thank you all so so so much for the beautiful birthday greetings, photos, messages, and poems!!! It is an incredible feeling to have so much love coming my way from all over the world - I cannot imagine a better birthday gift. Thank you.

If there is one thing the pictures remind me of is that there is rarely a dull moment with this family, and how lucky I am to find myself a part of it. Where else can I get foot surgery while sitting on the can, followed by dance party with Peg Bundy?? Not to mention having REAL super heroes on my side. And yes Cindy that was a huge sign of relief you heard all the way from Maine! HUGE!

When I think back to the best memories from my 34th year on this planet (and luckily there were a lot) I see all of your beautiful faces in so many of them. And I know my 35th will have even more! I am so ridiculously blessed to have you all in my life. I miss you all and love you very much.

We love you Tito Mike!

From the real Buzz Lightyear and the real Woody!

Dearest Mike.

I tried to upload the famous Les Mis video but the file is so large that it is just not possible. (are you letting out a sigh of relief?)

But, in looking for the video....I found this great photo! And I thought, since you have been part of the family for so long, it is only fair that we start you with your own collection of "Kawawa Mike" stories.

Memories don't get any better than this one.

Thank you for always being the rock of humility.
The pillar of peace.
Our model and example.

Happy Happy Birthday to the man who inspires us all to eat better, be kinder and love without expectations.

Love you!

To dear, dear Mike on his birthday...

 Hey Michael...

Some people like to argue
and some like to debate
but all you do is listen
and then you meditate

Some people like their burgers
and some like their steak
but the only kind of meat you like
is the meat that is fake.

Some people like to talk all day
and some talk through the night
But you never say an unkind word
or use words to win a fight

Some people think you are so shy
some think you are reserved
But since we saw you do Jean Valjean
we know that's just absurd!

Some people think you are Brilliant
and we know that this is true
But it's your kindness and great big heart
that make us all LOVE YOU!

Happy, Happy Birthday MIKE!!!!!!!!!

with love,
from all your brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews all around the world

In Barcelona with the Cardonas

Miguel and I are back from an amazing three weekds in Germany, France and Spain. Truly one of the best parts was spending time with the Cardonas on their home turf. Tita Tatat is the best Barcelona tour guide ever -- I think I saw nearly everything in a mere day and a half! Jos knows where all the best tapas are to be found and Nana works in the most beautiful building I have ever seen. I can't wait to go back.
